GRITTY McDUFF’S BREWHOUSE, Lewiston, Maine

A dilapidated 19th c brick warehouse, sited on a busy, downtown intersection overlooking the Androscoggin River in Lewiston, was renovated to create a fresh and inviting home for Gritty McDuff’s, Maine’s original microbrewery.  Floors and envelope were virtually rebuilt.  A new addition uses contemporary materials, including a terra cotta rainscreen, to communicate a warehouse character.  Fermenting tanks visible from the sidewalk take center stage, and an outdoor deck overlooks the river.
